New Horimiya Anime Finally Gets First Promotional Video And Its Exciting

Anime producer CloverWorks has unveiled the first promotional video for Horimiya: Piece. The anime is slated to premiere in 2023.

The Story

A new promo video has been unveiled for the upcoming anime adaptation of Horimiya, Daisuke Hagiwara's fan-favorite romantic comedy manga. The series is set to debut in January 2021.

The story follows high school girls Kyoko Hori and Izumi Miyamura, who are both quite different from their peers in some ways. Kyoko is a bright and popular student who seems like a fun, carefree girl, while Izumi is an average boy with a gloomy demeanor and numerous piercings and tattoos.

However, they develop feelings for each other. As a result, they take measures to hide their true identities from their classmates.

The series is directed by Masashi Ishihama (PERSONA 5 The Animation), and features the writing of Takao Yoshioka as well as character designs adapted by Haruko Iizuka. Meanwhile, music is composed by Masaru Yokoyama.

Characters

Hori Kyouko is a popular girl admired by everyone in school, but she also has to take care of her younger brother and do the housework. Her parents work long hours and they rarely get a chance to socialize outside of school.

Meanwhile, Izumi Miyamura is a quiet and "gloomy" boy whose appearance at school hides his nine piercings and a tattoo along his back and left shoulder. He's seen as a "brooding" otaku who wears glasses, but he's actually a friendly and gentle person.

During their first year at high school, they meet and quickly become friends. They compete in a sports festival between the East and West teams, and they're even able to cheer for each other after they win.

This summer, a new anime series will release called Horimiya -piece-, which will adapt chapters from the manga that were skipped by the first season. It will be animated by Studio CloverWorks, with directing legend Masashi Ishihama on board.

HERO supervised the series, and it inspired a television anime that premiered in Japan in February 2021. Funimation streamed it as it aired, and an English dub was also available.
